The "flowers" seen everywhere on the solar disk are formed by gas emprisoned by magnetic tubes.

The magnetic field can indeed form tubes that either extend to infinity (leave the Sun) or go downward again. The tubes that go first up then down are called magnetic "loops".

These loops, depending on their distribution on the surface, play an important rôle in the onset of the Solar Wind flow, both its direction and intensity.
